As a university student, one of the most important areas you’ll want to get familiar with is the library. University libraries play a key role in enhancing your learning experience, ensuring you have the materials, resources and services you need to succeed.

When you respond they are in a rush, can’t talk, videoconference or meet in person.

The school year is over, warmer weather is on the horizon, and you may be starting the search for a summer job. Whether that job is in your field of study or not, it’s important to understand what employers are looking for.

“Regardless of how strong your ‘hard’ or technical skills are, ‘soft’ skills are key,” says VIU Career Services Officer Paula Deering.

It’s the first week of summer session! This issue of the Pulse is your guide to success this semester, including how to access student services, the library’s getting started guide, on-campus work opportunities and pub hours. In November 2021, VIU launched its first Student Success Survey, which asked students about their experiences and motivations while attending VIU. The results are being distributed to all VIU faculties to be used for planning purposes. VIU values student feedback and the survey team would like to thank all students who took the time to participate.

All current VIU students in November 2021 were invited to complete the survey and 42% of students responded.

You’ve almost made it! For those of you in academic programs, if you haven’t finished yet you will soon (Friday, April 22 is the last day of exams).

Having a great resumé and cover letter can lead to incredible opportunities and knowing how to showcase to employers why you’re the perfect candidate for the job is essential for getting that first interview.

In just a few short weeks, we will be wrapping up the spring semester at VIU. But first: CREATE, VIU’s largest research and creative activity showcase, is running all week.
