It’s Fall Study Days for academic programs at VIU – are you using this time to get caught up? If so, our student blogger Samantha Allan has interviewed the experts and put together some tips on how to use time more effectively in her latest blog post.

In the transition back to in-person learning, many VIU students have expressed that they feel as if they have significantly less time for their commitments and often struggle to manage their time. What exactly is time management? It is the ability to use time effectively and it is considered a skill, so it can be learned and strengthened!

Winter weather has arrived on Vancouver Island. As you may have already noticed, Island weather can be unpredictable. On the West Coast, sometimes fondly referred to as the “wet coast,” weather patterns like high winds, heavy rain, thunderstorms or snowstorms can happen in any season and without warning. Extreme weather can result in power outages and campus closures.

Fall has finally arrived on Vancouver Island. Yes, this means rain, but it also means Halloween, and there’s a lot going on at VIU. Read on to join in all the spooky fun!

Jenni [pronounced Yenni] Ottilie Keppler says she’s always felt a “personal calling towards the west coast of North America,” and a desire to conduct research in a UNESCO biosphere region.

When she discovered that Vancouver Island University (VIU) had a research institute focusing on projects within the UNESCO-designated Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region (MABR) she reached out to see if she could do a practical research semester.

Graduating from university is a big accomplishment.

To help graduating students in the Tuition Waiver Program (TWP) for former youth in care mark this momentous achievement, VIU’s Financial Aid and Awards department, in collaboration with many generous community donors, created a graduate gift box program. Of the 33 Tuition Waiver Program students who graduated in June 2022, 21 signed up to receive a box filled with items to help them celebrate. 

With the fall semester in full swing, there will be many opportunities to get involved on campus, meet new people and learn a host of new skills. Finding or navigating all these valuable opportunities can be overwhelming.

This guide will help you to streamline your search and zero in on the competencies you’d like to focus on, no matter which program area you’re from, what year you are in or what your interests are!

Receiving the Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship Award this past year was an honour that allowed me to live the experience of a lifetime and fulfill a dream that I otherwise would not have been able to.
