  • catch up on missed courses
  • upgrade your mark

Please refer to the Course Timetable for the most up-to-date information. Summer courses are mostly commonly offered in two 7-week terms starting in May and June with a few options in a 14-week term starting in May. See Dates and Deadlines for specific term dates.

Visiting students

If you are attending another university and would like to take courses with VIU for the Summer Session and then return to your home institution, apply to VIU for admission to “unclassified studies.” We encourage you to meet with your home institution to ensure the VIU courses transfer and meet your degree requirements. They can supply you with a Letter of Permission that can streamline your admission to VIU. Once your application has been processed, you will be sent your registration date and time. Applications for the summer terms are open now.

Maximum number of courses

Due to the intensity of Summer Session courses, you can only register for a maximum of 10 credits per 7-week session.

Other summer activity at VIU

  • Intersession courses are often required by a program as an extension of fall and spring semesters and start at various times throughout the summer months.
  • Adult Basic Education courses are available for learners to complete missing prerequisites or refresh their understanding of secondary school courses taken in the past.
  • Professional Development and Training offers non-credit courses covering a wide variety of subjects.
