The Fundamentals of Forest Harvesting Practices Certificate Program

The Forest Fundamentals Harvesting Practices Program includes employability skills training, foundation, occupational skills, hazard assessment, workplace work experience. This is done over 12 weeks at VIU's training facility. Graduates will gain knowledge and skills in both classroom and hands-on settings that will help them to be successful as they continue within the industry.

  • Minimum 19 years of age.
  • Successful completion of assessment testing.

Notes on Admission

  • Preference will be given to candidates with the above noted admission requirements as well as individuals who have completed Grade 12.
  • Be physically fit (exceptions determined on an individual basis).
  • Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to attend a 30-minute interview.
  • The following areas will be covered in the assessment test: Mathematics, Reading Comprehension and Combined Reasoning.

Students who meet or exceed the admission requirements may not necessarily be admitted to the program.

Graduates of this program will be well-poised to become employed within the Forest sector industry at basic entry level positions with opportunities to advance throughout their career.

When applying to the program, applicants will be charged a non-refundable application fee.

When applying to graduate, students will be charged a non-refundable graduation and alumni fee.

Some courses have additional fees to pay for extraordinary class–related expenses.

The VIUSU Health and Dental Plan fee is assessed for all students enrolled in 6 credits or more per term, or in Trades/Vocational programs of 5 months or longer.

All fees are subject to change without prior notice and are expected to increase by 2% each year on April 1.
