The Casper Test - B.Ed. Years One and Three

All applicants to the Bachelor of Education – Year 1 and Year 3 programs at Vancouver Island University are required to complete an online assessment, the Casper test, to be eligible for admission. Casper is a 90-110 minute, online assessment that measures different competencies and attributes that we believe are important for successful students and graduates of our program. It complements the Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation used for applicant screening.

In order to take the Casper test, you will be responsible for securing access to a laptop or desktop computer with webcam and audio capabilities and a reliable internet connection with an internet speed of at least 1.5 Mbps and an upload speed of at least 2 Mbps. You will require the following for both account creation and test completion:

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Valid email address
  • Desktop or laptop computer
  • Working webcam with microphone
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection

Register and sign up for the Casper test

Using a piece of government-issued photo ID and your VIU Student Number, register for an account at Acuity Insights and select the Canadian Teacher’s Education (CSP-10209) – the official name of the Casper test you need to complete.  There is a $50 fee to write the test and an additional $18 for each school you choose to have your results sent to.

Select a Casper test date (see below). Limited test dates are available and test times are based on program admissions timelines and requirements. Please note that the dates listed below  are the only testing dates available for the program Casper test.

Please note, VIU will not be using the Snapshot Option for the 2025-2026 application period.

To ensure there is enough time for identity verification and payment processing timelines, register for a Casper test at least three (3) days before your preferred test date and time.  Last-minute bookings are not recommended. If you require testing accommodations for Casper completion, you will need to submit an Accommodations Request Form signed by you and your qualified professional four (4) weeks in advance of your desired test date. Learn more about Casper accommodations.

For direct inquiries about the Casper test, please contact support@acuityinsights.app. Alternatively, you may reach out while online through the chat bubble in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen on the Casper website, or in while in your Altus Suite account.

Casper test results are valid for one admissions cycle only. Applicants who have taken a previous Casper test will need to retake it.
