A study of oxy-fuel cutting safety and practice. The student will learn OFC and OFG processes and their applications, perform freehand and guided cuts on low carbon steel and use automatic and semi-automatic cutting machines.

WELD 106T Fusion and Braze Welding Using Oxy-Fuel Process (OFW) - Theory and Practical

A study of gas welding and braze welding safety and practice along with its practical application. The student will fusion weld on low carbon steel sheet, braze weld (TB) using the OFW process, and silver alloy braze on similar and dissimilar metals.

WELD 108T Shielded Metal Arc Welding - Theory and Practical

A study in shielded metal arc welding safety and practice. Students will use the SMAW process on low carbon steel plate and pipe, describe using the harsurfacing process on mild steel and describe and use the SMAW process on stainless steel and/or mild steel plate.

WELD 110T Electric Arc Cutting, Gouging and Related Processes (AAC) (PAC) (SMAC) - Theory and Practical

A study of electric arc cutting, gouging safety and practice along with its practical application. Students will use CAC-A and PAC cutting and gouging processes and equipment.

WELD 112T Semi-Automatic Welding and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)

A study of gas metal arc welding and flux cored arc safety and practice. Students will describe semi-automatic welding equipment and its operation, describe filler metal and shielding gases for GMAW, use the GMAW process, GMAW-P process, FCAW process and the MCAW process.

Students will interpret and apply mechanical drawings and fabricate weldments.

WELD 116T Welding Drawings

Students will perform mathematical calculations involving formulas, angles, triangles and geometric construction. They will also perform, read and interpret basic drawings, and identify common welding symbols and bolted connections.

WELD 120T Basic Metallurgy

A study and practice in understanding metals and their properties as it relates to the welding processes. Students are introduced to the terms ferrous and nonferrous. The course also describes tensile strength, elasticity, elongation, yield strength and ultimate tensile strength, ductility and malleability, brittleness, physical properties of metals and corrosion resistance.

WELD 121T Gas Tungsten Arc

Students will study Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) theory and application. They will select, setup and adjust high frequency power sources. Students will learn the composition, classification and application of tungsten electrodes, shielding gases and filler material. They will develop skill by practicing a variety of welded joints on mild steel and aluminum using the appropriate safety equipment.
